What type of kids should we be producing/nurturing/encouraging?

OF course, a team can't completely be made up of little fellas that are great on the ball, but we need to start encouraging the kids that can make a real difference in the front third, kids like Dimi Petratos. Check out more in my latest Roar post.

one of the things that i love about soccer is that people with different body types can play in a range of positions - barring in goal - giants only.

kolo toure and carlos puyol are medium sized/short, but can play in central defence. romario/messi/maradonna in the top third. xavi and iniesta in the centre of the park. being small is ok.

anybody of any size can earn a spot on any part of the field - you might want to balance them with a different type of player, gallas and toure could be a bit too much shortness.

and i am glad that we seem to be getting more open minded about size in australia.

I love the all this emphasis we are now placing on technical ability but the proof is always in the pudding, any kid while technically brilliant must still be able to hold the ball under pressure.

The reason Messi is such a awesome player is not so much of his technical ability (which is great) but his ability to ride tackles and still maintain possesion of the ball

Of course the more technical ability we can instill in the kids while they are young the better players we will see later.
